CY Safety

At Channel Youth we understand the importance of maintaining high quality Health and Safety procedures.  We have incorporated a range of health and safety measures into our work to ensure that we do our utmost to keep volunteers safe whilst they are in our care.  These include:

Good partner communication to ensure that volunteers are fully briefed on appropriate equipment and clothing prior to their arrival in India.  A comprehensive orientation on arrival, including a risk assessed apartment tour, code of conduct whilst volunteering with us, guidance on moving around the City, appropriate clothing, hazards to look out for, culture shock, cultural norms, eating and drinking safely.  We risk assess all aspects of our work and RA documents are available to partners via our website prior to departure.  We have a medical doctor on call 24 hours a day and all our project sites are within reasonable reach of local hospitals.  Our local coordinator staff are First Aid trained.  We have 24 hour onsite bilingual staff (Hindi and English) who live with our volunteers in our dedicated volunteer houses.  All our local coordinator staff are basic first aid trained.  We provide all our volunteers with pre-worksite visits and orientation prior to the start of their volunteer placements.  Local staff carry first aid kits to volunteer worksites and we only use our own dedicated transportation to transport the volunteers to and from their volunteer placements.  At the end of their placement our local staff can offer impartial onward travel advice to onward travelling volunteers.
