Volunteer Locations

Volunteers can choose to work in one of five areas of India.  Each has its own diverse and unique characteristics, here we explain a little about each one.

Rajasthan is known as the land of the Kings.  It is famous for having one of the oldest mountain ranges called the Aravallis and the sun kissed Thar Dessert. In terms of heritage Rajasthan is one of the leading States in India. There are large number of Forts, palaces and Havellis which are world renown for their architectural wonder, delicate carvings and colorful splendor. Territorially the largest State of India Rajasthan covers an area of about 343,000 sq km.  The main languages spoken in Rajasthan are Rajasthani and Hindi and four dialects Jaipuri, Mewati, Malwi and Braj Bhasa.

The State of Rajasthan apart from its heritage status is famous for its Wildlife Reserves and Religious pilgrimages. Some of the rare species of animals like Chinkara, Blackbuck, Great Indian Bustard and several migratory birds are found exclusively in Rajasthan.   Volunteers can opt for a range of excursions to the best bits that Rajasthan has to offer.

India's capital city is the great meeting place of ancient history and modern architecture. It is a buzzing metropolis, full of dramatic contrasts: The crowds at Chandi Chowk Market versus the peaceful tranquility of the Lodi Gardens; the Red Fort versus the Lotus Temple.  In Delhi there is something to capture the interest of every volunteer.

Goa is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. Located in South West India in the region known as the Konkan, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra  to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Goa is India's richest state.  Panaji is the state's capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city. The historic city of Margao still exhibits the cultural influence of the Portuguese, who first landed in the early 16th century as merchants and conquered it soon thereafter.  Goa is renowned for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture.  It has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot.

Kerala is located on the Malabar coast of south-west, India.  The state has an area of 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi) and is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the south and southeast and the Arabian Sea[note] towards the west. Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city. Kochi and Kozhikode are other major cities.  Kerala is a popular tourist destination famous for its backwaters, yoga, Ayurvedic treatments and tropical greenery.

Karnataka is a state in South West India.  Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest, Maharashtra to the north, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the southeast, and Kerala to the southwest. It is the eighth largest Indian state by area, Kannada is the official language of Karnataka.   Bangalore is the capital city of the state and is at the forefront of the rapid economic and technological development that India is experiencing.
